Reading & Northern Fall Excursion Help, October 2013
Author: jmbreitigan

Hello, I rode this train and I took this picture from the Hometown trestle. I am trying to ID the structure in the distance to the left. Any ideas ?

I think it is the Gilberton cogen waste coal plant
Gilberton Power and Schuylkill Energy are able to fully reclaim abandoned strip-mining pits by using discarded anthracite waste coal, or culm,
Culm piles once dominate in the coal region are being mined and hauled away.

It is or was the Kline Township Cogeneration Facility AKA Northeastern Power Station at McAdoo,PA. I beieve it is now closed.

My photo was taken from the north side of the ridge off of Rte. 309 so the silo and the conveyors should be reversed from the Hometown view.
