A couple from yesterday, May 23, 2023

1. The boat Manitoulin arrvies in Sandusky Harbor for a load of coal at the NS Coal Dock.

2. & 3. Train 61H barrels through Vermilion on Track 2 eastbound with NS 7683 and 1818.

4. Train 316 out of Bellevue comes over the NKP Vermilion River bridge late in the day with NS 1167 up front, and a DPU way back mid-train. This train was a real monster !

So the Manitoulin is still earning its keep! I had photographed it passing through Port Colborne, Ontario back in June, 1991.

Lower Lakes Towing does have a few very old classic lakers still in operation: Cuyahoga (80 yrs old), Saginaw (70 years old), and MIchipicoten (71 years old)

But unfortunately, Cuyahoga experienced an engine room fire off Pelee Island in Lake Erie Tuesday night so its future is now uncertain.

Lake boats and trains, always good! Shot 4 makes it appear that the Vemilion River is just a drainage ditch compared to the shots from river level!
