CSX coal train derailment in central Virginia, near Strathmore

This morning an eastbound CSX coal train, ID C200-04, derailed at least 11 cars (some reported more than 11) on the James River line near milepost 61.2, which is close to Strathmore, Va.  This will undoubtedly tie up the route for at least a day or two.  This is unfortunate, as it's also the detour route for traffic normally running on the Clinchfield RR.

25 cars were involved but only 500 feet of track was damaged.  RR reopened at 9:15pm on 1-8-2025, with a parade of eastbounds beginning to move after having waited up and down the line from Bremo to Clifton Forge and beyond.

Thanks for the updates. Milepost 61.2 puts it just short of the signals at Stearns. There is a farmer's grade crossing at just about 61.2, I wonder if that was a factor?

Preliminary decision is track conditions....what sort I am not sure, but broken rail is possible, and if it were a curve a bad thing.
