I just read that NS has 15 C40-9WE's (DC GEVO's) on order for testing this year. Is there any truth in this, and if there is what #'s will they be (9912-9926 maybe?), and when will they be built?

Okay..I'll bite...what is a GEVO???

GE evolution series units. They have a 12 cylinder HDL based engine and meet Tier 2 emissons compliance. The model types thus far are ES44DC and ES44AC and replace the C44-9W and AC4400CW. My guess is the NS versions will be ES40DC's rated at 4000hp as they have shunned the 4400hp rating...

It's good to see that the ES44AC and ES44DC have been adopted by the builder. These are simpler to remember and pronounce than the just replaced designations. Good going GE!

I'd love to see an ES60AC.

NS will be receiving 15 pre-production 4000 horsepower DC traction units that will carry the GE model designation ES40DC. As already mentioned, these locomotives will be numbered 9912-9926. The basic locomotive carbody will be identical to that of the AC traction units (including the inverter cabinet) to simplify the manufacturing process. The first unit has already been built and is in primer undergoing extensive tests at GE in Erie. There is a possibility that these units will be painted by GE at Erie before being delivered to NS. Look for delivery to possibly begin in March.

Chris, do you know if they also plan to get SD70DCe's? (My guess as to what they will call the DC version of the SD70ACe.) Thanks in advance for any info.

I haven't heard of any plans for anything from EMD at all at this point.
