Eastern Railroad Discussion > Canon S1 IS Question

I have a close friend who is considering purchasing a Canon S1 IS digital camera. He's an avid railfan who will likely use this for railroad photography. While my expertise on digital cameras is limited, I know many of you are very knowledgable on the subject, so any information would be greatly appreciated, such as pros/cons, or other tips. Also, if there are any comparable cameras to the S1 I'd love to know about them.

The 10x optical zoom is a plus; the focus
problems and noise issue above ISO 200
would concern me.
