Eastern Railroad Discussion > Trip: Cumberland to ConnelsvilleDate: 03/12/05 22:05 Trip: Cumberland to Connelsville Author: Ster2Block Headed out with my friend Adam from Cleveland today to Cumberland and worked our way west to Connelsville...
Here's some select shots of what we were able to see today: 1. A Chessie unit at Cumberland, taken behind the fence. Enjoy! Tony Date: 03/13/05 00:40 Re: Trip: Cumberland to Connelsville Author: Detector Man I really liked your 1st and 2nd shots because of the Chessie unit and the Chessie CSX patched unit. Thank you for your post.

Date: 03/13/05 11:47 Re: Trip: Cumberland to Connelsville Author: dwil89 Some good pics there...I am heading out to Cresson for a week at end of month and will set aside a day, as I usually do, for Cumberland and Sand Patch...I never feel quite at ease on that overpass at Mexico, always looking over my shoulder..its a busy road with alot of truck traffic...Dave W.

Orbitals makes it sound like they are something from outer space and makes you sound like you are from some remote part of eastern Ohio...oh wait, you are from some remote part of eastern Ohio! ;-) CG The signal nitpicker and equally remote to about everything. You say you don't mind when I call them orbitals? Sure man, I'll continue to do so :) :) Tony Date: 03/14/05 07:01 Re: They are not "orbitals"... Author: IU_Tower Ster2Block Wrote:

- > > Wait a minute.... I thought they were called > "Lunar".... "Lunar" refers to the bluish white lights that form the "restricting" aspect (lights at 10 and 4 o clock). The lights Ster2 calls orbitals are "usually" refered to as pilot lights. These can be white and dark yellow/orange. I believe he calls them orbitals as they "orbit" the main signal head. Marker lights is another less known/used name... Al Moran, The SD80MACKing Date: 03/14/05 18:02 Re: They are not "orbitals"... Author: CGTower csx6574 Wrote:

Orbitals makes it sound like they are from outer space. Which Ster2 apparently is from! ;-) I think the terms differ between T&E crews and signal crews. The terms used in the signal standards books are "markers". So less known or used or not, that's where the origin of that term comes from. CG Date: 03/19/05 20:42 YES THEY ARE! Author: mbrotzman Sometimes its good to be a stickler for terminology, but sometimes a term comes up that is just head and shoulders above previous methods of description. Because most people are not signal buffs and couldn't tell a CPL from an PCL, the term Orbital does a far better job describing just what exactly those little do-dads are than "pilot light" and I will continue to use this term and encourage others to do so.
