Model Railroading > Digitrax decoder for new Atlas N scale GP9Date: 07/16/07 17:57 Digitrax decoder for new Atlas N scale GP9 Author: rdb3 After waiting an eternity for Digitrax to announce a PnP decoder for Atlas's new N scale GP9, I bought and installed the model that was recently released for the GP30 (DN163A2). It fits perfectly and works great, except for two initial problems. First, the headlight didn't extend far enough for the high short hood, so I unsoldered the LED with the long leads from the unneeded Atlas board and installed it on the Digitrax board. (Note the polarity, as indicated by the flat side of the LED.) The LED looks yellowish when off, but is a bright white when lit. Second, for some reason the engine initially ran backwards, a problem easily corrected by changing a CV setting.
Incidentally, I put the shell from an older Atlas WP GP7 onto the frame, along with the black fuel tank (which needed a little notch filed) and trucks, and they fit fine. Rick |
