Radius Question
Author: mstokinger

When laying, say, 22 inch radius curved HO track (or any other scale I guess), where does the track sit in relation to the circle that the curve sits on? In other words, is the radius measured from the centerline between the rails, the inner rail, the outer rail, someplace else?

Thanks.

Centerline. A circle with a 22" radius would be 44" from track centerline on one side of the circle to the other track cenerline.

If you have a curve that measures 575 feet from radius point to centerline (in 90 degrees), what does that convert to in HO scale ?
I added it up the way I think it's supposed to work and I know I'm wrong so I ask you.

TCS - missing an important piece of the puzzle

Convert to your final product, inches:

575 x 12 = 6900" 6900"/87.1=79.22" for radius in HO and double that would be the inches for the full diameter cricle, track center to track center.

That's what I thought. Thank you!

That's what I came up with so my starting numbers are wrong. My final hope is the track charts my friend is looking for.

TCS - hmmm (cornfusion, I thought Redondo Jct was a tight curve)

80" rad in HO is still a 10 degree curve.

It is indeed, Redondo Jct just looks tighter than that but ya can't argue with blueprints.

TCS - cuz they won't argue back.
