Santa Fe SD-9's
Author: Lurch

Does anyone have information or photos of Santa Fe SD-9's? Were the SD-9's rebuilt in the same fashion as GP-7's?

Lurch,

Did not have any. First EMD SD's were the SD-24's.

....which WERE rebuilt, as SD26's, 30 or so of which were later sold to Springfield Terminal (Guilford) in about 1986. Some still exist in deadlines at Waterville, Maine; if any are still active I'd be surprised.

No wonder I couldn't find any information about SD-9's. Thanks for the info!

All 80 Santa Fe SD24's were rebuilt, amazing that an entirlely intact fleet would survive over 15 years - without losing a single unit to a calamity of some sort. The first SD26 destroyed in a wreck was the 4625, ex-4525, nee-925.

Santa Fe bought Alco RSD-4's, 5's, and 7's instead of EMD SD7's or 9's.
