Model Railroading > Preserving the S.P. in H.O. scale - Sierra Central RS11Date: 06/07/12 06:12 Preserving the S.P. in H.O. scale - Sierra Central RS11 Author: P5r24 A very good friend of mine sent me an Alco models brass RS11
to send through the S.P. detail and paint shops. In these veiws we catch the old gal staged in the Hasson yard ready tracks in her old road colors just prior to getting a new lease on life. Next in this 4 part series will be the dis-assembly & paint stripping process. Gary Edited 3 time(s). Last edit at 06/07/12 17:47 by P5r24. I like the old ALCO models Alcos, but whenever possible, I try to upgrade the drives with Atlas components. Consider the Atlas C420 trucks. They're much better detailed than either the brass models trucks, or the Atlas RS-11. The Atlas motor and flywheels are an upgrade over the model's original open frame motor. Even better - a Kato HM-5. It will be interesting to see what you do to her. Date: 06/07/12 09:46 Re: Preserving the S.P. in H.O. scale - Sierra Central Author: P5r24 Arved
Mostly Correct! See my thread where I mention the fuel tank issue on my Atlas unit. http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,2781770 Not Correct! See the attached Don Jewell photo of Alco demo unit S.P. 5722. Big fuel tank, steam generator - long hood forwards even! FYI - Two other Alco Demo/ S.P. units also had the Big tank option - 5720 & 5721 but no steam generators. Gary PS The Sierra Central unit will get S.P. Blackwidow colors Edited 5 time(s). Please say 'yes'!

Thats exactly the plan for the Sierra Central unit. (If you don't mind me using my Athearn Blue box Articulated Daylight cars) I'm hoping to find a roof photo showing the steam generator and exhaust stack details....... Gary Edited 1 time(s). I wondered if it was a home layout name or perhaps a club. I typed Sierra "Western" on my first heading for some Lame reason. I'm rather amazed I wasn't corrected by the "details & spelling police" on here - LOL!!! Gary Date: 06/08/12 13:09 Re: Preserving the S.P. in H.O. scale - Sierra Western Author: Arved Well, cool. Here's another:
http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?11,858703 Make sure you put her in black widow. When in red and gray, they had the smaller tanks: http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=106852&nseq=2 http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2128507 |
