Model Railroading > Ballast King - Ballasting track in HO and O guage

I saw this product reviewed in Modelrailroad Craftman. The website has a video showing it ballasting O 3 Rail track. Looks interesting. It was released for O gauge and it looks like they just did a HO version. You have to tell them if you want it for code 83 and or code 100 in HO. $240. Bruce

Wow, that's pretty costly for a ballasting project. I'm definitely not in that $$$$ ballpark, though it looks like an interesting option.

My price point is using an empty spice jar, with a perforated lid, from the kitchen and a few minutes with a soft-bristle brush to do the job. I'm modeling a logging line, so perhaps if I was doing miles of mainline rail I'd look differently at the tool above as a timesaver.

I could see a use for it on something like a club layout where you have hundreds of feet of track to ballast.
But on a home layout???

I suppose if you shared the cost with several other layout owners, it would be worth it. Great idea, but pricy. Just watch, some outfit will copy it with a cheaper, made-in-China knock-off.
