Model Railroading > Chicago Great Western GP30'sDate: 06/12/13 12:48 Chicago Great Western GP30's Author: bnsfsd70 Just wanted to share a picture and video I finally got around to editing of a quartet of GP30's on Mike Porter's HO scale layout. The Geeps are by P2K, and include sound and Mars lights in the nose. The audio in the video came from GP30's on Kansas' Cimarron Valley RR.
The model of the Des Moines River bridge is 15 feet long, and it's prototype is in Ft. Dodge, IA. Enjoy, Jeff Carlson Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 06/12/13 12:48 by bnsfsd70. I live in central Iowa and not to many model this area. The high bridge looks spot on to the real thing.

Awesome bridge! Dennis Date: 06/12/13 19:35 Re: Chicago Great Western GP30's Author: icancmp193 Very impressive! Wish I had a wall that long!

dnuck Date: 06/13/13 11:52 Re: Chicago Great Western GP30's Author: bnsfsd70 Thanks for the nice words guys. I've previously posted some more of this layout here:
http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?3,3016995,page=1 I've taken a few more videos of it as well, though I've not edited them yet. Finding appropriate audio, then editing that to sync up with the video talks a while. Give it time, I'll make it happen. Thanks, Jeff Carlson Date: 06/13/13 12:04 Re: Chicago Great Western GP30's Author: bnsfsd70 And while you're at it, I've got the same video as above up on Youtube, but with a sweet 1960's film filter on it, to make it look more like train movies of the era.
You can catch that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9KXu5Iyeuc - Jeff Date: 06/14/13 06:42 Re: Chicago Great Western GP30's Author: wabash2800 Very nice. Thanks for sharing. Four units at a total of 6000 hp equaled 6 F units correct?

After doing some work on the interwebs, I found that the GP30 had 2250 hp, while the F7 had 1500 hp. Therefore, three of the 30s could do the same work as four F7's, based solely on horsepower. In addition, I'm sure there were some added tractive effort and maintenance things that favored the newer engines.
