Mid to late 50's... more like a June Gloom day! Not so much smog as low overecast that seemed to make everything grey. :)

Warren is absolutely correct. The mid-50's were L.A's worst. The sixties were slightly better. When they took the lead out of fuels is when we started to turn the corner:
