Preserving the SP in HO scale: High Hoods!
Author: P5r24

The Espee's fleet of SD7,SD9 & GP9s were always a favorite of mine growing up.
So today,in the cool of the morning we catch the 4 unit GP9 helper set is just easing
into a long string of empty refrigerated PFE cars as we catch the extra 3945 west leaving town.

Today's train just happened to have all EMD high hood units witch included a trio of SD9s up front
on the point leaning into the grade.

We then turn back the clock a few years and find another set of
classic EMD High Hoods droping down the slide off of main #1 into the A yard.

Another great set of themed pictures, Gary. By the way, aren't these scenes located near the Tufts Locomotive facilities? I was looking for a spur track or something leading to it but couldn't see it.

Great stuff Gary, I used to see GP and SD 9s all the time in northern California. But I didn't take enough pictures of them. Guess that's the dumb kid in me who thought they were too old and I was more interested in the flashy new Superfleet engines over on the Santa Fe. Long live the SP, keep up the great work.

Looking great. The SD9's were my favorite by far, and watching a pair of them kicking cars in the Salem, Oregon Yard was a regular activity for me back in the 1990's. Even today you might catch P&W's SD7 kick cars in the Albany Yard. I posted a video on here a while back, although the crossing warning bell detracts from the sound somewhat.

Gary, you should try to do some sunset/ late afternoon light using a single point light source to cast long shadows. You will need to use a tripod to do some time exposures. But setup a Single bright incandescent light on a scene and far enough from the tracks so that one source of light lights up the whole scene and the shadows are all point in the same direction.

I like the idea Ted.

I'll give the single light source a try,
but a camera novice I'am,

Gary

Thanks Warren,

Yes,

Tufts Locomotive Works Ground Zero it is.

I've tried working with the U.P to install a new CTC switch
off the landside of Santa Susana siding somewhere near the
old Depot and run me a spur track down the middle of Kuehner
Drive over here to my shop.
They just won't commite the dollars to do so - Darn it!
(I hate when that happins)!

Gary :-)
