Model Railroading > Blue box locosDate: 08/30/15 14:25 Blue box locos Author: SDP40F This might have been asked here before. I have several Blue Box locos that I want to
use on my layout. How do I install Kadee couplers on them. Pictures would help. Thanks in advance. AMK SDP40f Spring, Date: 08/30/15 17:20 Re: Blue box locos Author: BNModeler I would usually drill and tap the couple mounting pads and then just add the Kadee's.
Check the Kadee Coupler application guide at Kadee and they tell you which coupler you need. Date: 08/30/15 19:47 Re: Blue box locos Author: SDP40F Thank you...
AMK SDP40f Spring, Date: 08/31/15 03:20 Re: Blue box locos Author: HB90MACH They will fit right into the existing pockets. If you are not worried about the height. That will get them all on the layout quick. You can drill and tap and shim later to get them to propper height with the gauge later. Sometimes the off set couplers are enough to get them to propped height.

IIRC some of the early Blue box coupler pocket's had a snap on u shape cover, sometimes it was easier to take the body off, which one are you doing ? Ed Stewart Jacksonville, FL Date: 09/02/15 21:11 Re: Blue box locos Author: pmack It's better to put the couplers in an insulated box because the frame is part of the electricity's path and two locos back to back could make a short circuit.

There are KD couplers with a metal head but plastic shank that mitigates the problem of a short circuit for that application. Cheers, Jim |
