I was making a video at the other end of this consist and forgot to keep track of the engine's perilous progress. Turns out the video didn't even work! Luckily no damage happened.

Ah, avoid that expensive sound! Had there been more than one lokey, you wouldn't have been so lucky!

Tall thumbtacks or a nail into the sub roadbed work really well about 100% of the time.

HA! Well, be consoled in the fact that this sort of thing is much more embarrasing when you do it with a real loco. Never have done it personally mind you, but I came close once. As it was, "close" was bad enough for the old ego.

Guard rails FTW.  Don't run without them!

It was your lucky day. Did you go buy a lottery ticket?

Here's my solution for such a situation.  Bumping posts.  100% effective, and not without prototype.

Keep in mind the truth of Murphy's Law:  IF possibly, something could go wrong - sooner or later it will.

Yeah, I need to add something. The end of the track is foam that fits into the wood cradle. I'd like all the space I can get on this small 4 x 8 ft. layout, so I may put the bumber on the wood frame.

I nailed a piece of plywood to the end of my staging yard to prevent falling off the edge of the world. I have plexiglass at the end of 2 bridges at the edge of the layout (the middle of the bridge is the edge of the layout and the edge of the bridge is also supported by plexiglass. . Masonite or plexiglass would work well, too.

I'm impressed the trucks didn't fall off those prototype oopses. I thought trucks were a gravity fit - gravity kept the car/engine on the trucks.
