Model Railroading > Discount Trains (Sunbird Trainmart) in Colorado Springs, CO

I stopped by there today and the building was completely empty, with no signs on the door. I know they have moved at least once before. Does anyone know if they have moved again (and where), or did they close for good?

The last known location is: 3311 N. Academy Blvd, Colorado Springs, CO 80917.

If that is the location that you stopped at then it appears they are gone. I had heard that the owner was having quite a few health problems and might not be able to keep the store open.

Yeah, that is where I went today. I also called them - the number is still working but the voicemail is full. Thanks for the reply.

Owner passed away. A few months back.

We once gave Zim, the owner ,a motorcar ride out on the ex Rock Island line here in COS.  He had lots of stories about railroads here in CO and his work in the Mines of Leadville.

I believe that Custom Railway Supply on Garden of the Gods is still open.

Sorry to hear of his passing.   Was a frequent customer (at the old location) that and the old N Scale only store at the old Rio Grande Depot (in the row of retail buildings) also closed now.

Zimmerman at Sunbird was a great guy and always had a bit of different business model buying and reselling a lot of recycled product.  Have a picture on the wall taken in his shop and behind me was his massive wall of G Scale.

I believe he had to move because of a flood at the old location?

I'm very sorry to hear about his passing. I'm sure he and the store will be missed. I always enjoyed visiting his store - I even remember going to the old location on Austin Bluffs Pkwy. Thank you for the reply.

Yes, that is correct. Custom Railway Supply is still open. I went there today also.
