Model Railroading > Real Revenue ProducersDate: 10/12/18 16:10 Real Revenue Producers Author: Santafes95 I love switching and I love so-called "junk trains" with mixed freight cars pulled by GP20's and GP30's and maybe even a GP 7 Topeka cab thrown in. However, the railroads are in it to make money and for the Santa Fe, the JB Hunt stacktrain was the real revenue producer and these trains usually got the best power and the hottest schedules. I am glad that I got to witness this period with the rise of intermodal and we were fortunate that Walthers did a great job producing HO intermodal equipment, not too long after it was seen out on the rails. The tradition continues on the Peavine as 600 leads two other Dash 9's and 21 stack cars to the ramp in Phoenix. This is the hottest train on the line and it gets great power! (I shudder to think what it would cost to recreate this train today with three Kato Dash 9's, four five packs loaded with 48 ft and 54 ft JB Hunt and Santa Fe containers).
Show us your real revenue producer; the train that really pays the bils on your railroad! Date: 10/12/18 17:55 Re: Real Revenue Producers Author: Atsf814 Awesome! Santa Fe...All The Way!

It's really the unit coal, oil and grain trains that make all the money.

Modeling this (these) trains would be the revenue producers for the manufacturers! Rob Date: 10/15/18 16:23 Re: Real Revenue Producers Author: Santafes95 Great point!
