We received our final samples of the 3800 cu. ft. hopper, new tooling. These are ready to start production next week. As mentioned in the newsletter, the order deadline is August 12th. Mike snapped these shots today soon after they showed up. More info here: 3800 Web Site I'm no freight car expert but I'm impressed! :-D -Jason Date: 08/06/19 19:41 Re: Final samples of 3800 cu. ft. hopper Author: DKay Beautiful.Got mine ordered.
Regards,DK Date: 08/06/19 21:33 Re: Final samples of 3800 cu. ft. hopper Author: CSX602 They look very nice...
Now if I could only sell most of the defective first run cars to buy the "new and improved" second run cars... Date: 08/07/19 00:35 Re: Final samples of 3800 cu. ft. hopper Author: needles_sub What about the stand alone double stack cars?

Date: 08/07/19 14:37 Re: Final samples of 3800 cu. ft. hopper Author: SPDRGWfan I can't agree more, but Jason has a duty to all his fellow hosers who have been long suffering with US stuff masquerading as Canadian for uncounted years.
That said, us folks south of the border would always love some of that Rapido goodness where ever possible! Date: 08/07/19 16:05 Re: Final samples of 3800 cu. ft. hopper Author: rapidotrains We'd love to do American covered hoppers but that market is very crowded. It seems there is another covered hopper announcement every couple of months.
-Jason Date: 08/07/19 20:36 Re: Final samples of 3800 cu. ft. hopper Author: grahamline We see lots of Canadian hoppers in the Pacific Northwest. They come down the UP Washy line (ex-Spokane International) into Hinkle OR and move west to Portland. Grain and potash. I do hope A****** buys one and studies the side panel assembly method.

The Cylindrical hoppers look nice! And being rubber and flexible they're damage resistant too! Date: 08/10/19 06:31 Re: Final samples of 3800 cu. ft. hopper Author: M630 Very nice job. How about semi-scale wheels?

After all, trains are meant to be viewed from the sides, not end view (that's normally trespassing). I recently seen the for the first time on a derailed ACF hopper, but do not recall ever seeing them available for 1:87. Props for new tooling! It's be nice to have them available as a seperate part.

There are always opportunities to improve a model with rubber air hoses, semi-scale wheelsets, scale couplers, etc. One of the things I enjoy most is seeing how people "use and abuse" our models with extra details, incredible weathering, or sometimes kitbashing them into something we didn't expect at all. -Jason Date: 08/10/19 22:21 Re: Final samples of 3800 cu. ft. hopper Author: CSX602 Yes, if somebody wants to create a diarama piece that never has to operate on a less-than-perfect model railroad, then I can see using semi-scale wheels... However those of us who have to opertae on less than perfect layouts (like club layouts or modular layouts) don't want to pay extra for a car that will not be as good operationally (or have to pay extra plus then convert to better operational wheels). That's my point...
Better details are okay, but when they cross the line into compromising operations (like semi-scale wheels do) then that's something many modelers don't want to see. |
