GP40P-2 wearing the paint job of its current owner...
My favorite railroads are the D&RGW, WP, SP and the Union Pacific. I guess I am lucky they all fall under the same flag now. So, when the cool models show up, they can all fit in....

There were only three GP40P-2's on the SP and I think they all still survive. The ex-bicentennial is on the IHB and the other two continued to work for the UP.

We found the real 1373 at 4th Street Yard in Downtown L.A. in July,and it prompted me to pick up an Athearn one. Unit has been "Shopped" and repainted recently and the noselight area has been filled in.

Neat model and photos.  I wonder if they use rear section for anything, since the steam generator is gone.  Seems like a good storage spot, with all the hood access doors still in place.

1373 is a nicely redone GP40N. Still smells of fresh paint in the cab and runs well.
The squared off hood end is entirely empty. The floor has a mounting ring in it and the ceiling has patches where the various vents were.
One curious detail is visible just in front of the radiator grilles, it is a round hole on both sides. It is open to the inside an seems to be an inspection or access hole to get to the air cylinder for the radiator shutters.
Good running unit, I want it back on my yard job.

The kind words inspired me to post a few more 1373 pictures. Wasn`t keen on the added paint on the right rear. The Stenciling under the lights were interestingly Clear to read and the Ditch lights are 74 Volts,and the Light on the Rear Hood says 30 Volts

I thought I had seen this locomotive and indeed I have.  Matching the Athearn paint other than the primered battery box cover, here is 1373 in Brighton CO on April 20, 2011.
