New Acquisitions Pennsylvania Diesels

The Pennsy in theory will run transfer trains on my layout. And I have an afinity to the FP7s, as I saw and photographed them on the Grand Rapids & Indiana early in the Penn Central era. Though I never saw the GP9Bs on the GR&I, I did see them on other lines (with one photo).

Questions: I note the gold lettering is a different shade on the GP9B than on the two FP7s. Is this correct? Perhaps it was a later color? I also note the skirts on the F unit have been removed. When did the Pennsy start do that?

These are Genesis models I purchased from Spring Creek Hobbies. I think I got the last PRR FP7s.

Looks like you are coming right along on your layout.

Looks good

A little weathering on the Geep should help with the mismatch.

Don't see many calves in model railroads.

Nice equipment Victor. Do you have other photos of your layout or a track plan.

Tom, thanks for asking. The layout depicts my proto-freelance, Wabash RR, Indianapolis Branch btw Fort Wayne and Indianapolis in the 1950s. (In theory, it would be the only steam railroad ever built btw the two largest cities in Indiana.) If you do a search under my wabash2800 moniker on the Model Railroad Board here, you'll find more photos. I need to update my 3rd Planit track plan before presenting it (working on my second book takes most of my time). I will be retiring in two years and possibly selling the house; I had planned on ceasing work on the layout.

But I have changed my mind and have started working on the layout again and will be doing a big push this year. (Some special, hand-built trackwork has been ordered.)  I think I have unique ideas I would like to share with this layout. I also like scratch-building and have a number of bridges and buildings I would like to complete, mostly Wabash prototypes. And who knows, perhaps I will not sell the house after all.

I need to do some more research, but I suspect the gold specified on the dual passenger units was different than the gold on the freight GP9B.

FP7, GP9B, FP7 is a very unique  locomotive combination, I like it

A bit like the Pearlman mallets the DRGW used to run in the 60s.

I found this link for the Keystone Modeler which includes a review of the Genesis GP9B.
