Model Railroading > Another C&NW RS3 for the layoutDate: 03/27/23 19:09 Another C&NW RS3 for the layout Author: CNW I've been taking a break from layout building to finish up a few projects on the workbench. This RS3 has been on and off my workbench for over a year. The model was built using a Stewart phase II shell and an Atlas yellow box RS3 drive. To eliminate modifications to the shell and frame, I scratch built a new frame using brass shapes to fit the Stewart shell and Atlas drive components. The side handrails were made using KV Models stanchions, the unusual fuel tank and air reservoirs were scratch built and many other details were added. The weathering was mostly done using an airbrush with a little bit of chalk.

My primary model road is ATSF but I spent many summers at my grandparents home in Baldwin, WI right on the CNW twin cities main watching EVERY train that went by even in the middle of the night! I am also a CNW modeler but on a limited basis. That was during the 1960's.

The modeling/layout detail from your work and others is so good that only the room lighting gives it away. Not being a modeler myself, I'd love to see some photos in this forum taken with lights that are more like point sources (emulating hazy sunlight for example) vs. diffuse lighting from room light fixtures. No complaints in any case, thanks for the post!
