I received this E mail from Amtrak, it is about the Dinner light Menu on the Texas Eagle and City of New Orleans

Please note that our Texas Eagle Trains and also the City of New Orleans Trains are both using the Light Menu
selections in their Dining Cars. We are enclosing what

Braised Beef, Mashed Redskin Potatoes, Carrots ...... 18.00

Cheese Tortellini, Alfredo Sauce, Broccoli .......... 11.00

These trains serve preplated meals in the dining car.
Although the meals are prepared off the train, they are
Served on china. Beverages are in china cups or in
Glasses, and regular stainless steel flatware is used.
Cloth napkins are provided, and there are tablecloths.

I have read about no china or cloth napkins. I guess we have to wait and see.

Hello all,
I have previously posted on this subject a couple of times now, and I think I will restate again.
All of these items look really good, I just hope that they are served correctly. Chris, you posted that they are serving on china...which is great, I hope it happens. You know, I have taken the Texas Eagle about 2 years ago and my dining car service was not all that great...food was tasty though.
I think, that service is what it comes down to. I have had many a dinner aboard an airliner that was tastefully presented to me that it was (or made me think) it was pretty good. As long as I am not getting a "Swanson 'Hungry Man'" tossed in front of me with a can of Coke on the side....I think it will be ok.
Another thing, I hope the menu rotates. After all, most train trips (long distance) are 1-2 day affairs, and would hate eating the same thing for the 2 days that I would be aboard!
Again, if this is all served CORRECTLY this may not be a bad option on "shorter" LD trains.
Just my thought...again...

Oh? For breakfast, where is the meat in "Rice Krispies, Raisin Bran Crunch Or Corn
Flakes;Cut Fruit, Croissant, Yogurt (Strawberry Or

and for lunch, I suspect one might be able to purchase Minestrone Soup alone. This usually is prepared without meat.

So you are saying that some one choosing not to eat meat must settle for cold ceral? What is wrong with offering a meal of scambled eggs and hashbrowns? And for lunch Cheeze Pizza or an Avacodo/Cheeze sandwitch?

Any supermarket aisles stocking canned soup and frozen food will beat the Texas Eagle prices by at least 70%, minus the costs of a cheap styrofoam cooler and a bag of ice.

No use of the Grill will be permitted, so several items can not be prepared.

Where is the fruit. The feds say we need more of it, but it seems gone.

Wish Washington would give Amtrak a break! So what if they lose money on dining services, if this doesn't satisfy them, I bet nothing will! I'm looking forward on my taste on this on 4 heading back here to Flag after going to Cali to see my baby brother graduate in June!

The train is called the Texas Eagle. Why not serve a few Tex-Mex selections? At least they could have some Texas Chili to be washed down with Dos Equis or Pacifico :)
