CSX to test new signals on RF&P/Acca MONDAY
Author: rbx551985

This is a cross-post from another website:

There is to be a temporary suspension of the signal system, between Greendale and 'AY', commencing at 0759 hours on Monday 10/16. The purpose of this exercise is to put in service the new signal equipment installed at North Acca, in conjunction with the replacement of the air-powered switch equipment with electric power switches.

Hard to say how messy this going to be. Southbound trains traveling beyond the SAS at Greendale, will need both a signal and the "Beta" yard limit before proceeding. Northbound trains traving past 'AY" will need both a siganl and the "Charlie" yard limit before proceeding.

The power operated switches at Hillard Road (HR) and North Acca (NA) will be secured in hand position and be handled by switch tenders, under the control of the CQ Dispatcher.

One hopes this temporary signal suspension and install the new [system] will be successful. It remains to be seen if AMTRAK and VRE have been informed of this....... HEADS UP for progress -- it's always hoped that these up-grades are positive, and any delays are only temporary.

On a Monday morning? Great timing. Sounds like the sort of thing that might be done, oh, on a slow Saturday or Sunday. Good luck, AMTK and VRE.

Since the VRE does not travel south of the Fredericksburg area, any delay to them will be related to trains backed up from Richmond.

FROM THE EASTERN RAILROADS discussion board, regarding that:

Except if their patrons might (--in certain circumstances--) need to rely on regularly-scheduled AMTRAK trains [coming north from Richmond] to augement the regular VRE trips. That happens on occasion, when VRE has delay problems, whether its due to VRE equipment problems, stopped CSXT freights, or other reasons. Perhaps this test-period won't affect them at all, in any regards, even though its nearly 50 miles south of VRE territory. "One can hope..."

Amtrak has been informed. Is this project limited to signals, with the switch replacement to come later?
