Amtrak Corporate Headquarters
Author: coaststarlight99

Today I sent an email to Amtrak Customer Service requesting the address to send a letter to Mr. Kummant regarding the possible removal of Pacific Parlour Cars. They sent me back this address:
Amtrak Corporate Headquarters
60 Massachusetts Ave NE
Washington, DC 20002-4285

I have seen pictures of the UP, BNSF, CSX, and NS headquarters but not Amtrak.
This address is obviously the same as Washington Union Station...Where are the offices? I would deffinetly like to see some pictures of this part of the station if anyone knows of any.

THe offices are upstairs over the great hall, I believe.

Western Division's corperate is in LAUPT, above the baggage area and in the side building overlooking the Ambus Terminal (not petsaurus bus plaza). It's nothing special, just a maze of hallways with key-card-guarded doors. I'm assuming corperate in Washingtonis just the same.

As I recall, after entering the station through the "main" entrance, there should be a small hall on your right (left, if coming from the train platforms). On the far side of that hall are the doors that lead upstairs to the corporate offices.

It's a typical office cube environment (been there twice for an interview).

Unless the HQ "head count' has been greatly reduced (which I doubt; cutbacks simply mean it's time to shuffle the cards), Accounting is over at 400 N. Capitol. That is the building in which WETA 90.9 (dang them for changing their local programming from classical to talk - NPR has enough of that during drive time as is; now I have to listen to WGMS 104.1 when in town) is HQ'd and a movie titled FIST was filmed in front of.

400 N was the complete HQ after Elephant Plaza was vacated during 1978 and until Union Station (60 Mass) could be considered a suitable facility.

Truth be told, behind those doors at L.A. are some pretty darn nice offices especially up on the executive level (shouldn't be a surprise). To put it another way... you'd never mistake it for the back office at SAN.

When you park on the side of Union Station, and enter the doors, you see the office on the left, and then get in the elevator to go down to the station. I have seen that many times. I find it intereasting that the Corporate HQ is not much different then the Southwest Division HQ.

Only the top officers are in Union Station. As Mr. Norman notes, the rest of Amtrak's staff is a block away at 400 North Capitol Street, where they moved when they vacated L'Enfant Plaza in 1977 (I know, USRA took some of Amtrak's former space, and I worked for USRA 1978 -- 1980).

The offices are pleasant enough, but hardly Lucullan. I've been in them several times for meetings.

Amtrak no longer has offices at 400 N. Capitol; however, some offices have moved to 10 G Street which is behind the old Post Office. The address for HQ is 60 Mass Ave., the station address is 50 Mass Ave., and the other tower which also holds Amtrak offices is 40 Mass Ave.

Not surprised to learn such, Ms. Blucher; after all in Washington "everything changes yet nothing changes".

<Western Division's cooperate is in LAUPT>

Did it move from Jack London Square in Oakland?
An Engineer I know told me a story of the offices for Amtrak's Western Division are/were? located on the 5th floor of the Port of Oakland building in Jack London Square.
He said the offices were extremely plush (something that would make a CEO blush) and the rent was $2 million a month and he had no idea what 70% of the people did up there!
Did Amtrak get smart and got rid of those expensive diggs for something more reasonable?

I know they had corporate offices there at one time but I seriously doubt that the rent was $2 million/MONTH!! Maybe per year, but not per month.? I think the Capitol Corridor offices are there as well.

You've got that right! After every cutback the same old bandits keep showing up, like bad pennies!

A former 6th floor, 400 N. Capitol St. office of an Amtrak VP can be seen on CSPAN-TV. It's now occupied by CSPAN and is frequently used a guest interview room. The north side of the U.S. Capitol can be seen thru the south windows of the office.

Water Street as it's refered to, or the 'ivory towers' are still there.

Off rails, I noted earlier that WETA 90.9 and Channe 26 had offices in 400N. Cap. I also noted at a later posting "everything changes yet nothing changes".

Well I have now learned that WETA fled the District to Arlington County!!!
