Author: bowers5

Has there been any updates on the progress of the new CSX bridge over Quantico Creek at Quantico, VA. We will be on the Amtrak Auto Train 11/24/ and 12/9/. Just wanted to know if the bridge is operational yet.

According to VRE, the bridge should be cut in and IN USE by or before Spring 2007: the amount of time between now and then will see FRA inspections, track laid & cut into the RF&P Sub's C.Q. dispatcher desk in JAX, and signal testing. Among other items. ONE new track will be laid for now (--late this year and/or early in 2007--), and there is enough room on the new bridge for a SECOND NEW track -- which when added, will make this a 3-track route over Quantico Creek (the current 1-track bridge IS TO REMAIN IN PLACE). Watch for ballast being brought in: when that goes in, crossties and rail won't be far behind. Also something that CSXT is going to do is take [the proper amount] of time to install the connections of the new trackage to the current mainlines. Yes, this is beginning to get interesting.
