Audio story on Trainsit voice recordings
Author: bobs

KCBS Radio (San Francisco) ran a feature this week about a local guy who collects recordings of transit system voices around the world. Nice piece.

And I thought foamers were bad when someone gets in "their" shot. Imagine this guy when someone coughs or sneezes as he's recording an announcement???

And yet we pay good money to discuss such activities here. Does that mean we have too much money on our hands?

Incidentally, I wonder if he's ever heard the Amtrak annunciator at Los Angeles Union Station turn "La Plata" and "La Junta" into "Louisiana Plata" and "Louisiana Junta". Talk about mispronunciation!!

On a visit to Helsinki, Finland several years ago I enjoyed hearing a lady's voice with a very proper British accent announce "the fast train for St. Petersburg is now ready for boarding on track one." Other recorded announcements were made in Finish and Swedish.
Closer to the States, one can enjoy hearing train announcements for Via's Canadian in Jasper in Japanese as well as English and French.
