Passenger Trains > NJT Making a Run for the HillDate: 11/03/10 07:39 NJT Making a Run for the Hill Author: set41249 During the leaf slick season, NJ Transit has instructions out for eastbound trains handled by ALP motors to stop at the west end of Bernardsville station so that when the train departs it has a better shot at gaining speed to make the hill. I believe there are similar instructions in effect for westbound trains at Glen Ridge.
Does anyone know of similar scenarios on other commuter trains where they look for a head start during the days that leaves are on the track? Andy Date: 11/03/10 09:10 Re: NJT Making a Run for the Hill Author: Lackawanna484 set41249 Wrote:

During leaf season, only the first few cars are open for boarding / debarking westbound. In some cases, the train will back down the hill and make a run for it. MUs are best, ALPs on the front end are the worst. The line is in a deep cut, with a park / forest around it, and a bend to the right as the line goes under Bloomfield Avenue. The Aqua Train visits often during leaf season. |
