Detroit People Mover, Riding it?
Author: tq-07fan

My dad and I will be passing through Detroit to get over to Canada. I have ridden the Vancouver Sky Train which basically is the same linear induction motor setup as the Detroit People Mover and the Scarborough Rapid Transit in Toronto. I would like to ride the Scarborough Rapid Transit since it should be replaced by a more conventional light rail in the next couple years I figure it would be the right time to do the one Detroit on the same day.

So is there a good safe place to park and ride a lap on the Detroit People Mover where we could get on and off without much problem and still return to a car that hasn't been stripped or broken into? Detroit has a reputation worse than it actually is but it would still suck to park near a stop if somewhere else is a better option.

Jim

First, make sure it's running... when I was there, it was down.

Second, sure, park at the Greektown Casino, you pay, but your car is safe (Greektown is safe and fun).

Please let me know exactly when and where you will park. I'll take good care of your car.

Yes, been there, done that. Greektown and the People Mover.
Attached picture shows the Greektown Casino people mover station and my better half.
The reason for the picture was the Beaubien Street sign. My wife is a descendant of the Detroit French. Beaubiens are one of them. We were about to ride the People Mover all the way around. When we were there (09) parking was free.
