Love these photos.

It really captures the essence of an early morning boarding of the SW Chief in west.

Great pix! Great weather, too! That 145 looks real nice in those surroundings. Shot #11, in particular, is simply beautimous. I'd conclude that your long journey was well worth the effort. Glad you could catch it.

real nice photos ... especially #12 ... working on the NEC 90's still considered a good clip but i'd love to see the Amtrak doing 90 through the desert ... the hogger looks like he's really pouring on the juice ... good stuff

Very nice images of a train which may not be running that route much longer.

Too bad they all weren't painted like 145. Recognizable, and All-American.

Wait---you're out in the middle of nowhere, and you just happened to run across two TO members? What were the odds????

TO members that are chasing a AMTK Heritage Unit? I would say the odds were pretty good ... :)

Great set of photos. I rode the Chief east a couple of years ago. Nice trip and we were on time to Chicago. SPB

Great pics Chris and yeah, Phase III is the best paint scheme Amtrak ever had!
