Thanksgiving Day Chase
Author: walstib

Chasing Amtrak's Coast Starlight has become something of a Thanksgiving Day tradition and I was thankful to be able to do it again this year.

I chased #11 south from Coyote to Santa Margarita, where northbound #14 was waiting in the siding. Then I chased 14 back into the Sunset as far as Bradley.

The first shot shows #11, with heritage unit 184 trailing, heading south through the Elkhorn Slough.

The second shot is the meet in Santa Margarita.

And the third shot is a time exposure just south of Bradley. The PV SIlver Lariat, a CZ dome, was on the rear. If you look at the light pattern you can see the lights in the dome at the rear of the train.

I was busy ordering lunch in the dining car near Coyote, but I did see you at Elkhorn Slough.

- Amtrak #11... highball Paso Robles.
- Autumn colors at Paso Robles Depot.
- Video of Amtrak #11 at San Jose and Amtrak #14 (with AMTK #14) at Paso Robles.
