On board 21(9)
Author: glcaddis

Headed to Dallas. Will post observations along the way. Left Bloomington essentially on time. Lady engineer. Long train, 2 sleepers; looked like 4 coaches but not sure. First detector said 32 axles and 88 mph. My GPS said 80.4.
Only 3 coaches. So far on time. Dinner is next.

Keep posting. It is always fun to get live posts. Sort of like being there. I am interested in track conditions south of St. Louis. Have heard some interesting reports. I will be on the Eagle in January.

Thanks.

Into stl 15 minutes early smooth ride all the way.

Just pulled out of stl ontime. Discovered that heritage unit 66 is on point.

Sounds like our new engineer is also a lady.

We are about :40 out of stl and are up to 60 mph. It took over :30 to get up to 45 mph. It has been a long time since I've been south of stl, but it sure seems like it took much longer to get up to speed than leaving other big cities. And the ride is a lot rougher.

That is because you travel the first 30 mins through the old freight reliver tracks to get to the desoto sub

Arrived in Dallas about :15 early, but had to wait to back into the station due to track work. It was a very good trip. Looking forward to the return on #22 which begins tomorrow afternoon. Here are some pictures from last night in St Louis and this morning in Marshall.

And a couple from Marshall. This looks like a switcher, maybe an 0-8-0, couldn't really tell. The Marshall station sets between the legs of a Wye, so the train is on a curve and tilts to the right. Need a double spot to board the sleepers and the coaches.
