LaHood: "I'm sticking around"
Author: Lackawanna484

Bloomberg reported yesterday that transportation secretary Ray LaHood has told people he intends to remain as secretary "for a while" Although LaHood had previously said he would be leaving office in 2013, that statement is apparently inoperative at this time.

Perhaps the post-Amtrak sinecure he thought he'd fall into didn't develop.

As long as we can't have Kay Bailey Hutchinson (a favorite of mine), I'm glad Ray LKaHood is staying for a while. He's been very good to Amtrak.

I like him best for re-directing some of the rejected Florida money to the NEC, for building the Harold interlocking fly-over near Sunnyside Yard. That's what I call a politician who actually gets things done (as opposed to those who only want to cut pass.rail).

Sorry to say but today LaHood is tangled up with the 787 Dreamliner mess. He had said it was safe after the first problem but now has grounded all US 787s. He should stick to trains!

Could be why he's staying. Now that he is being reviled for talking out
of both sides of his mouth at the same time and for being in Boeing's hip pocket,
his intended "soft landing" outside government service might have hardened up
a bit.

How LaHood handles the Dreamliner issue will be more important to his future
and to the nation than everything he has done in the passenger rail arena.
Nobody wants to take on someone who is already on the defensive. But even
as he stays at DOT, his effectiveness will be eroded.
