Passenger Trains > NY MetroNorth to test all engineers for sleep apneaDate: 04/23/14 06:58 NY MetroNorth to test all engineers for sleep apnea Author: Lackawanna484 350 people
union on board will be extended to all "safety sensitive" personnel http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=news/local/northern_suburbs&id=9512820 Date: 04/23/14 09:18 Re: NY MetroNorth to test all engineers for sleep apnea Author: chico As a person who participated in a sleep study and saw the apneas (not breathing) personally the morning after (on the graph paper), I excitedly grabbed the opportunity to do something about it (so as to get a "good" night sleep--as in fully rested--) when I got my first c-pap machine 10 years ago. I would have a difficult time getting any restful sleep without it since. I now sleep like a baby and don't drowse off when driving or feel tired all the time. I even love it for my grandpa naps I may take in a car ride or a chair..
Thing I learned is, that millions are affected by sleep apnea and don't even know it. Makes your heart get enlarged, as your brain tells your body "hey move, I need oxygen!" during the night. So, good thing in my book. But of course, irregular schedules are killer on the human body. RR and operating types need to realize that. I don't know how you rails do it, a two hour call to show up for work?? Chico Date: 04/23/14 09:33 Re: NY MetroNorth to test all engineers for sleep apnea Author: ts1457 chico Wrote:

Date: 04/23/14 12:08 FAA Already Did it Author: NewRiverGeorge No joke, the FAA has already issued an order requiring all licensed pilots with fat necks to wear sleep machines at night, or have their medicals revoked.

One of the reports in the past few weeks mentioned that both the FAA and Federal Motor Safety people had regs already issued. The FRA had been dragging its feet until the Spuyten Duyvil when it reactivated the task force. |
