What's happening??? The moon turned blood red a few nights ago! ISIS is sweeping the Middle East! Ebola is out of control! The national debt is over $17.000,000,000,000! Amtrak #8, the eastbound Empire Builder arrived at Chicago on time. Oh no! What's next. Maybe the second coming?

Kidding aside, It's great to see this train ON TIME. First time since Nov. 29, 2013. (Thanks to illini73 for that info.) If you look a dixieland's results (and thanks to whoever is running that service) you see that along the route it was often over an hour late at several stations but twice it made up quite a bit of time. Just shows that the train can run on time.

Thanks to BNSF, CP, and Metra for their efforts also for jugging things to get that train through. Someone deserves to celebrate and then they need to be shamed for the past performance. Lets hope this is a sign of things to come.

#8 actually got here early on September 8 of this year (also a Monday), but nevertheless there have been months-long intervals between OT arrivals the past three years. Things seem to be getting better now; we usually have at least one train a week that's within an hour of schedule, usually on Sunday, Monday or Tuesday when trackwork delays are reduced. Once all the trackwork is picked up for the season, it will be interesting to see what the winter weather brings.

Of course, things have now gone bad on the other side of town . . .

I looked out the window here at rainy "MH" Tower around 5 pm to see #8 turning its equipment. Couldn't believe my eyes!

The passengers must've been disappointed that they weren't able to enjoy the numerous "new normal" opportunities to see the countryside while the Empire Builder sat motionless out in the middle of nowhere.

Seriously, If this phenomenon could be repeated a few times, it may augur well for #7 and #8.
