Just a heads up

Cardinal has been doing it with one P42 locomotive. Now that the Capitol has reduced its consist down to one P42, what are the chances of it going back to two at least for the one trip?

Is that a permanent change for the Capitol? Hope not.

Likely will be this way for a while due to locomotive fleet attrition. City of New Orleans and Texas Eagle have normally run with one unit for quite a while now. No Amtrak diesel locomotive purchases are planned for the national company until 2024, so there will be at least ten more years before any relief comes.

BUT, squeaky wheel always gets attention. If Cap starts breaking down as the Silver Star and Silver Meteor did when Amtrak tried cutting them back to one engine, could be things will swing back the other way.
