Nice Amtrak Trip
Author: retcsxcfm

On Friday the 12th,I boarded a bus at Lakeland,Fl.along
with my brother. We were enroute to Orlando where we picked
up train 98 to DC.My brother has health issues and I went
with him to Denver. We had a handicap room all the way.
Train 29 to Chicago, then train 5 to Denver. Most of the time
we were on time.

I had to get back to Florida,so I left on train 6 the same
day I arrived.Train 30 to DC,then train 91 back to Lakeland.

Personnel were great and we had no problems.I took names of
all who helped us and I told them they would be in the "news".
Here are the ones I got, train 98,Decalva our car attendant.
Train 29,B.Barney,car attendant,Judith and Kima,servers.
Train 5,Reggie and E.Barnes servers.Train 6,Tavares Booker
server.

I was not able to get a roomette on train 91 and had to ride
coach, which I am not accustomed to.Hardly got any sleep.
Train 91 has three coaches and two sleepers.NO one rides the
trains! At every station, about the same amount of people
got off as well as on.I did notice the past few days train
91 has been running with 11 cars.I have not seen the train,
so I don't know what the consist is.

My other comments.Since I first rode a SuperLiner in 2003
I did not like them and 12 years later I still do not like
them.I am used to the Viewliners. The SL's have no room in
the upper bunk. The roomettes have no toilet. The handicap
room needs to be layout differently. It could make better
use of the space. The Viewliner handicap room has an enclosed
toilet and shower, while the SL has no shower and only a
curtain between the toilet and the bed.To me,they are
poorly designed.

On train 91,I never heard any announcements about stations
dinner etc. Also in the cafe car there was a sign (new to me)
that read,"No outside food to be consumed in this car".In
the SL's I never saw any signs to that effect.

My trip was over the lines of CSX(ACL,SAL,RF&P,B&O)NS,(NYC)
BNSF,(BN,CB&Q)On all the legs some track was smooth at times
and at other times rough! What I don't understand is why when going
over a frog, the car is slammed from side to side. And I mean
slammed! Can anyone explain this?

Your comments,please.

Uncle Joe,Seffner,Fl.

UJ, are you referring to a bad frog ride on just the Superliners, or both those cars and the Viewliners?

Add P & LE to CSX's heritage lines on the route of #29.
