NY: Another assault on a PATH train conductor
Author: Lackawanna484

Man assaults conductor on a 4am train, tries to steal keys to the PATH train.  Arrested a few blocks from the 14th street down station in Manhattan.

PATH has been having a lot of trouble on the after midnight runs. Gangs mugging passengers, employees, etc

It's bad enough that the PATH personnel have to deal with local hooligans--now they have this guy from out of state causing trouble.

I ride the PATH occasionally at night, and it can get gnarly.  There are a lot of PATH police visible, but they tend to be in clusters of four or five, at a few locations.

That can be a problem if the incident is at 14th street, and the nearest units are four officers at 33rd street.

I think having undercover officers riding public transit would be great way to increase safety.  the would need to work in at least pairs and could radio uniformed officers to make arrests or take action themselves IF needed.

the agencies involved would need the funding, personnel, AND the community BACKING them for doing their jobs.........

Does PATH attract a low life crowd? Maybe best to shut it down.

So we should shut down it keep people from getting to work (yes than happens in the middle of the night) because a few low lives ride it. Brilliant.

PATH needs to learn how to disperse their police efficiently, not huddle together in social cliques.

Getting all too common.

LOS ANGELES >> In an effort to curb assaults on bus drivers, Metro will install video cameras as well as steel-and-Plexiglass barriers separating operators from passengers on hundreds of new buses within the next three months, the transportation agency announced Friday.

Attacks on bus drivers have risen 35  percent from 2012 to 2014, prompting a three-pronged offensive aimed at protecting 5,000 bus and rail operators working for the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Though most assaults tend to be minor offenses, they have involved passengers punching and kicking operators during layovers and sometimes weapons are used, Metro reported.

How much money do taxpayers fork over, instead of riders, to pay for all this stuff? It all adds up and makes the deficit ridden service even more costly to operate. Losers have a right to ride, attack, and harass. I doubt the losers pay anything.

Of course the "losers" don't pay anything--they only have enough money for booze and drugs.  I have a few ideas, but they don't belong in a Trainorders discussion.
