Passenger Trains > What Penn Station looked like this rush hourDate: 05/27/15 21:03 What Penn Station looked like this rush hour Author: GenePoon I received these cellphone photos of the mess in Penn Station, New York during Wednesday's rush hour,
with many trains cancelled and others short of cars due to an Amtrak power outage at Sunnyside Yard. Amtrak claimed the problem was resolved by around 530pm but it took hours longer to return to a semblance of normalcy. Date: 05/27/15 21:08 Re: What Penn Station looked like this rush hour Author: darkcloud Too many people start threads without enough geographical information, as if we are all familiar with their local areas. So I'll help Gene out, Sunnyside Yard is east of Penn Station, located in the state of Good Repair.

Date: 05/28/15 08:31 Re: What Penn Station looked like this rush hour Author: Lackawanna484 NY Penn station was a mess at 10pm last night. Channel 5 news did a live stand up shot with residual delays making for good footage.
NJ Transit cancelled a number of trains before they reached NY Penn, which may have caused some crews out of position issues, too. > Trains are now operating on/close to schedule in/out of New York. This was at 120am and was the only official report of near-normalcy. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 05/28/15 09:03 by GenePoon. Many who would have normally used NYP are now working from home two days a week - expanded from the one day a week!!!!
NYP is nothing but a glorified subway station largely made to resemble Swiss cheese.... Date: 05/28/15 17:23 Re: What Penn Station looked like this rush hour Author: DNRY122 Interesting that the commentator above mentioned Swiss cheese--I have seen NY Penn compared to a rat maze.
Date: 05/29/15 07:54 Re: What Penn Station looked like this rush hour Author: Jishnu NY Penn Station during a regular rush hour is only slightly better than this. The thing is that this lasted into late evening, which is the unusual part of all this.

I hope that comparison favored the maze. At least the rats get a nice reward when they're done. They know how to get to Jamaica, Woodside or Atlantic Terminal by subway, or if all else fails, head to their Aunt's place in Queens. But they have more options.
When NJT sends Midtown Direct trains to Hoboken, passengers act a bewildered as though they were dropped in Peking Central. Taking PATH to Newark or Hoboken, or to PABT and take the "competing" NJT or Private bus to their community, they are clueless, even though all tickets were cross-honored with everybody. |
