#3 (28) broken down in Naperville IL
Author: AMTRUK

Just got a call from a friend (non railfan, first train trip) who is onboard saying  they are in the station and (the) loco died and they can't get it restarted.
Dixieland shows a service disruption.
Amtrak's website says there are no trains currently on this route (WTF).

sounds like another State of Good Repair issue.  Getting to be way too common.
Are you sure they made it to Mendota? Looks like they are in still in Naperville.

Deadhead Surfliner car on rear with air blowing can't get brakes to release.

You're right, I called him back and he confirmed Naperville.

That would likely be "Eola" yard, which is BNSF's main Chicago freight yard located just east of Aurora (several miles west of Naperville).,

Looks like they're up to track speed now, so it wasn't a locomotive issue?

No. 3 must have been more screwed up than it sounded.  I see it's 3 1/2 hours late into KCY.  It's beginning to sound like 27 in mid-winter.

I think the issue was other than motive power.

As I said earlier never had anything to do with the power.  There was a deadhead surfliner car on the rear of the train with air problems.  The car was set out in Eola yard.

So the car was likely overhauled in B.G. and deadheaded back west, yet had a fatal flaw.

No, failed enroute, but let's blame BG for letting something out with a fault. It passed it's tests before leaving and a component failed enroute, but that wouldn't make for an Ambash read now would it?

Photographic evidence of STATE OF GOOD REPAIR on one of the engines on a later thread:

Hopefully AMTRUK'S friend can still see out the windows.

As for the car just released from Beech Grove Shops and now ignominiously sitting in the Metra yard awaiting a tow back to Indiana for a DO-OVER...

STATE OF GOOD WARRANTY ("and see if we can bill the expense for our failed work to the State of California."  -Joe Boardman).

I'm sure glad you are a fly in his shorts to hear all of his supposed quotes.
