Coast Starlight Oregon Trunk detour last use?

Getting into a discussion with a friend about the Starlight, he made a joke about if the Coast Starlight were to Use the UP through the Columbia River Gorge and then the Oregon Trunk the Klamath Falls as a detour. That's where i informed him it actually has happened in the past. The one thing we both want to know is when was the last time this happened? I searched around here and only see one date in 1999 being mentioned.
