Will the Silver trains get disrupted again??
Author: BaltoJoey

Looking at the National Hurricane Center's latest map.
It looks like Hurricane Maria is making a beeline
to Florida in the same path as Irma!!

Tropical Depression Lee which is forecast to possibly degenerate into a remnant low by Monday night.

Most of the current models show Maria going north and possibly hitting North Carolina. Of course, these are 10 days our or so, so pretty big margin for error.

"LEE" is the "L" storm. It's closer to Africa at this time and not very strong. Of course, it has a lot of miles of ocean to cover before it becomes a serious threat to CONUS.

Drifting off topic a bit here. With a name Lee and all the craziness these days, who know what’s going to happen. Statues of Robert E. Lee have been vandalized or removed all over in the South and the East. A few weeks ago, ESPN removed a sportscaster named Robert Lee was reassigned from calling a game at a Virginia school. That Robert Lee was of Korean heritage and had nothing to do with our Civil War of the 1860s. Authorities had to warn people during Irma and Harvey not to shoot at the hurricanes. It wouldn’t do any good. If Lee makes it to our shores, let see these people that hate everything “Lee” go out and fight this Lee. At least it would be nice if they help clean up the damage after Lee goes through.

Thanks so much for the interesting and informative --
if rather surprising -- post when you said people actually
shot at the recent hurricanes. I know some people are quite
ignorant, but I didn't know some were that ignorant!

Ignorance can kill. And knowledge saves lives.

Hope none of these storms does any damage.

Someone once said that if you ignore or erase history, you are doomed to repeat it (or something like that). The PC culture in this country is out of control. But if Tropical Storm Lee does damage, somehow some will blame it on the Confederacy, Thomas Jefferson and George Washington.

As a resident of Key West, I am acutely tuned into the Atlantic storm conditions.

(We were away on a family trip now in DC but the house did fine in Irma. However, with the on-going issues of unstable power, limited water, low fuel and food supplies at this time, we are using our long-standing AutoTrain reservation today to get us down to Sanford and then on to Orlando where we will still until the coming weekend when we venture back home. We will visit The Mouse for a day or two too.)

Lee will likely fizzle out.

Maria is projected to follow a different path than Irma (interesting ... IRMA and MARIA contain the same four letters of the alphabet, but I digress) Here's the spaghetti model for this morning.

The south Florida weather services are predicting the storm will pass to the east of Florida, and possibly to the east of the Bahamas.

They're not in "storm of the century" mode this week.

Hope Maria doesn't disrupt the restart of Amtrak

Depends on which weather person you listen to. My favorite is Getitwrong N. Stillgetpaid.

How do you solve a problem like Maria?
How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?

With a nod to "The sound of Music".

The web site pointed to doesn't seem to show it heading towards Florida any more, though there is a low probability of catching the outer edge of tropical storm force winds.

Then again, we appear to be getting a bit of the Jose treatment from a far outer band in the form of endless off and on rain all through today, which originally was supposed to be relatively dry!

In the movie "Paint Your Wagon," which starred
Lee Marvin, Clint Eastwood and Jean Seberg.
Actor Harve Presnell sings "And they call the wind Ma-Rye-A."

BTW, Lee Marvin and Clint Eastwood actually did their own singing
in the film!! ;-)

It was a Facebook joke that went viral. There is no evidence that anyone took any action as a result. It appears the authorities expected the worst and over reacted.

Since many people seem to be suffering from rectal-cranial inversions, can you blame the authorities?
