We are seeing a true railroader. He may have been promoted to high office but he still understands the basics: the people, the track, the equipment, and of course the customers.
Note to younger readers: For decades, when David P. Morgan was editor of TRAINS he would get cab rides; the public joke in the industry and the railfan press was "David who wants a cab ride?"

Last of a dying generation of railroad management that understands the business and started from the bottom.

Can't tell if serious or sarcasm due to Internet. No such rule, however I feel like you might be mocking the steam crews who feel it's necessary on yhe main line?

Those "safety" vests/jackets are NOT required INSIDE the cab! Plus, the men are standing a station platform, so the "safety" crap isn't necessary there either. When the passenger service Conductor or Collector steps off the train at each station stop (either Amtrak or commute service) to assist/organize passengers, they are not wearing that "safety" crap either.

A student who learned from Graham Claytor, who was also known to ride in cabs and mingle with crews!

HQ staff might be there to explain to Richard Anderson why locomotives lack a yoke and flaps.

That used to be a funny spot in Trains magazine way back in the day. There would always be a picture of the Man on the platform with somebody sticking their head out of the cab with the balloon caption "David P. WHO wants a cab ride?"!!!! He even answered a letter I wrote to him back in 1983 when I was in the Navy overseas. Treasured item in my collection to this day.

When Mr. Morgan passed away, he was the last of a kind ....

Burlington John

Cuz you know, money grows on trees and they have a money tree next to the money printing press Wick brought with him to Amtrak HQ. Money is no object these days.

(In case it wasn't obvious, that's sarcasm)
