Chargers for Southern California?
Author: Cliffs619

Does anyone know when the new Chargers will be coming to Amtrak's Surfliners? I see that CalDOT has them running in northern California on the line to Sacramento and that Metrolink in LA has put new ones in service. I understand that Amtrak California has ordered some. Is that true? Also, did the NCTD (Coaster) order any? Thanks.

Metrolink does not have Siemens Chargers. They are running EMD F125s.

Surfliner deliveries are supposedly scheduled for later this year. NCTD announced they'll be purchasing chargers, along with two extra cab cars and a four extra coaches. Timeframe for coaster's chargers is sometime in 2020.

They have EMD F125s. To say they are running them is a stretch, to say the least.

They were running them in lead on trains for LA to San Bernardino line this week.

I don't railfan much so maybe to say "they" is a stretch, but in addition to seeing all the new ones held out of service in Keller Yard, I've seen at least one out and about on the San Bernardino line. So one (or more) are, in fact, running.
