LOSSAN politics have destroyed Train 761. Beginning April 1, no more through trips from points south of L.A. in the morning. Passengers arriving in L.A. at 7:03 AM will no longer have a one seat ride to points north. They will now wait until 9:11 AM for the first train north, arriving in Santa Barbara at 11:41 AM. A new train 759 will now leave L.A. at 4:09 AM, arriving in Santa Barbara at 6:47 AM. This "commuter" train will fail within a year. At least they left 1761 alone on weekends so that there's still a one seat ride in the morning, arriving in Santa Barbara at 10:10 AM. If this is what "local control" is going to do to the state intercity rail service, perhaps the state should start running it again ! Details here: https://lossan.legistar.com/Calendar.aspx

This link will bring one to a comparison of the old and new schedules. It makes much clearer what will change than the difficult to understand earlier post. I do have to agree that the earlier departure time of 4:09 a.m. from LA is too early even for arrival in Oxnard (5:58 a.m.) and Santa Barbara (6:47 a.m.) A half-hour later departure might be better for those whose work day in Santa Barbara starts at 8:00 a.m.

Well looks like they don't proofread these things before they post the new ones. Example below; didn't we just discuss the unstaffing of the Maricopa station? Checked baggage is still shown as being available.

Presumably the ten minutes of dwell time is still needed due to double- or triple-spotting the train thanks to the dinky platform. They might as well give up on this stop and just have everyone use Tucson.

Vermonter:
15 minutes earlier start out of Washington, as with most NEC trains,
Running time lengthened 10 minutes each way between Bellows Falls and Essex Jct.

Are NECR's tracks deteriorating ?

The post on Maricopa was to hi-lite they are still showing baggage service in timetable. Station is now closed.

Yes dwell time still requires at least two stops, sometimes 3, very short platform. Lack of baggage, will save one extra stop.
