Passenger Trains > Does Amtrak Allow Private cars to be added/cut off @ Portland,OR?

Train 28/27 Terminate there ! However Trains 11/14 stop @ Portland ? Also Does Amtrak still allow to cut off Privates at Denver,CO & Kansas City,MO

Are you planning to charter a Private Rail Car? I am sure the community would be very happy to hear that.

I do believe that there is sufficient time during the Kansas City stop. Maybe TO member TexasChief can confirm this as he parks his PVs at KCUS for the better part of each year.

Seven or eight years ago I was on a trip with three private cars out of LAUPT which were dropped off in Portland, then added to the Starlight the following day. We continued to Seattle and eventually returned to LA. The trip was put together by Todd Clark of TRAINORDERS fame.

I think most jurisdictions consider cutting off privates a first degree felony.

To answer the question: no, not under the new restrictions. Portland's station stop is less than 30 minutes.

I was cut off and added at Kansas City recently. Amtrak and Kansas City Terminal did a nice job and the train was not delayed .

WHAT IS the current status of ABQ , Oakland, whitefish?

Per the new rules published 4/18, Portland is not on the list even though it is a termination/origination point for 28/27. While the Coast Starlight could drop/add cars there in the past, this is no longer allowed. Oddly enough, the parking surcharge for Portland is still in the new prices published on the same date.

Kansas City is OK for both the Southwest Chief and the River Runner. Denver is also OK for 5 and 6. Spokane is no longer on the list. Seattle is available, instead of Portland, for originating/terminating trains. Cars can be dropped or added at Albuquerque.
