I'll be the second to say it.

Beautiful pic and IOTD vote from me, too, but a sad case of discontinuing service account an overreaching PTC policy—really unfortunate.

Great photo, Chris. Thinking outside the box, as usual.

Nice photo Chris, great lighting. To follow up on darkcloud's comments, the extensions for Frontrunner are very long term plans at the moment. There is also talk about double-tracking the current route and electrifying it. But the hang up as always is funding. The other route the darkcloud mentioned is still in early discussions, but from the last meeting I attended the route was discussed as light-rail (Trax) instead of heavy rail (Frontrunner).

Not a huge loss except for all the people who arranged their life around the trains being there.

We need a different attitude. The defeatism I see with rail advocates is ridiculous.

>only 35 riders

I used to ride Amtrak from North Philadelphia to New York regularly. Amtrak purposefully strangled the stop with an eye to driving off ridership and discontinuing the service. We heard all the same crap about how “only” so many people rode the train, blah, blah, blah. Of course they did. You did everything possible to discourage people from using it.

When you make the train service purposefully inconvenient, it’s very easy to drive off ridership and kill the service.

The same crapola was spewed to kill off the outer branches of SEPTA and some limited MBTA services in 1981. It worked, they are gone and never coming back.

The same principle was used to harm industrial concerns in the 70’s. Such and such a shipper was “only” shipping 100 carloads a year, therefore, they did not “deserve” rail service, etc. As stated elsewhere, you’d never hear anyone advocating tearing up a road and abandoning it and telling the drivers to try walking over the field to the next road no matter how few cars used it.

We could have a tax system which allowed railroads to avoid abandonments and just provide service which would see railroads blossom, but our industry is full of short-sighted defeatists without a vision for growth.
