EDGEWOOD, Fla. - A pedestrian was fatally struck Wednesday afternoon by a SunRail train, the Edgewood Police Department said.
Police said the crash was reported shortly after 2:30 p.m. near East Mary Jess Road and South Orange Avenue.

There are no road closures in the area.

The Florida Department of Transportation said SunRail trains P323 and P324 have been canceled, and train P322 is delayed by 60 minutes.

Delays are expected to last more than 90 minutes, the agency said.

No other details were given.

The crash remains under investigation.

There is a grade crossing there, so horns would have been sounding.

Hey now, I may be an old and deaf Floridian but at least I'm smart enough to pay attention to crossing signals and look both ways!  LOL

There are a LOT of distracted or oblivious drivers and pedestrians in Florida. Left turn across three lanes of traffic. Walking into an intersection head down, listening to music, the list goes on and on.

Two hours ago I saw 5-6 cars race the crossing gates at an FEC crossing. Gun the engine and GO!

As life would have it, I have photos from that intersection from October 2017:  a large warning sign, a view of the intersection mentioned, and a video of 97 passing.

As you can see, there is plenty of visibility in both directions.

I wish the idiot media wouldn't use the word "crash" when talking about a person getting hit.  Every time I hit someone, I never considered it a "crash".  If I hit another train, that would be a different story.

It's because spoken and written English are no longer necessary requirements for media reporting employment.

I guess that explains it.  I know the technical definition of the word "crash" could mean something as simple as a train hitting some other object, but it just doesn't sound good.
