Passenger Trains > Amtrak 21 August 18thDate: 08/18/18 14:05 Amtrak 21 August 18th Author: sptno Look like Amtrak 21 has some issues in east Texas and not going anywhere.
Any report of engine failure or other issues? Thanks Pat South Austin, TX Date: 08/18/18 14:31 Re: Amtrak 21 August 18th Author: sptno Checking the Amtrak map, it is stopped in Longview, TX for a very long time.
Either engine failure, car failure or crew ran over their time. Going to be interesting to see what happens next. Pat South Austin, TX Date: 08/18/18 14:39 Re: Amtrak 21 August 18th Author: SunsetLtd Hit a car in Hallsville between Marshall and Longview. Sparked a fire, engine looks a little crispy. Expect it to terminate in Longview and deadhead to Fort Worth with a UP unit. For 421 thru passengers, it's a long bus ride to San Antonio, where #1 will pick up the spare cars that are becoming increasingly handy these days.

Hope that the train crew, especially engine crew are OK. Probably can guess what happened to the driver Sad day all around. Pat South Austin, TX Date: 08/18/18 14:51 Re: Amtrak 21 August 18th Author: sptno I searched for the acident. Wow, the front of the engine is toast along with the car.
Lots of damage to the locomotive, no one was in the car. This could have been very tragic for the engine crew. Thankfully it was not. I guess they are going to have to find a spare Amtrak engine. Also, read that pickup was under tow so nobody in it.
