Since Friday's departure of 49 was cancelled, I am assuming 48 last night was cancelled due to lack of equipment, as the trainset makes a same day turn.

Amtrak didn't want to put equipment together with a Superliner set either I guess (and run to Albany like has been done on occasion).

Agreed in full. The kids in my neighborhood could very likely manage a sidewalk lemonade stand better than the alleged "professionals" are "managing" their intercity passenger railroad. It's beyond infuriating; it's disturbing.

How could it if 48/448 didnt run out of Chicago Saturday evening? The train gets split at A/R, part goes to NYC and the rest goes to Boston.

The trainset #48/#448got annulled west of Albany yesterday, I believe. Freight derailment as I recall?

Three options were then available for today between Albany and Boston:

1) Turn the consist from yesterday and run it back to Boston (same equipment) today (its gotta get back to Boston somehow right?).
2) Take an engine and just two coaches at the Albany-Rensselaer yard for a make-up set that could have run Albany to Boston (not that hard).
3) Cancel the train.

Amtrak took the easiest option of all - cancel the train altogether (goes witht the current theme that others have promoted - Anderson's out to kill the LD trains or at least diminish them as much as possible). I wonder if they even took the equipment back to Boston. Could be a bus connection between Boston and Albany for #449 passengers tomorrow, Monday, August 15th!
